2026 Forwood Award Recipient Recognized
The 2026 Frank P. Forwood Award for Excellence in Presented Research was awarded to Molly Keesling Wells, a Ph.D. student in Religious Studies at the University of Texas at Austin for her paper, “Beyond Monotheism: the Ikhwān al-Ṣafā' on Love”
2026 Hale Prize Recipients
The 2026 Harry Hale Prize for Undergraduate Research was awarded to MaeKayla Effinger, a Baylor University student, for her paper, “Was Jesus Autistic? Autistic Traits of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke”
The 2026 Harry Hale Prize for Graduate Research is shared by two deserving scholars this year:
Linda Moldovan, a Ph.D. student at Baylor University, for her paper, “Matriarchal Authority: Exploring Gender Roles in Romanian Pentecostal Churches in Texas”
and,
Claire Mummert, also a Ph.D. student at Baylor University, for her paper, “Political Agency as Survival: Women in 1-2 Samuel”
2025 Hale Prize Announced
The ASSR is pleased to announce that the 2025 recipient of the annual Hale Prize for Undergraduate Research is Luke Bellinger of The University of Texas--Austin for his paper entitled, "Towards a Theory Understanding Homophily in Church Political Socialization". Look forward to reading the paper in the upcoming 2025 Proceedings of the ASSR.
2025 Forwood Award: no recipient
2024 Forwood Award Recipient Recognized
The ASSR is pleased to announce that the 2024 recipient of the annual Frank P. Forwood Award for Excellence in Presented Research is Patrick Scott Smith, an Independent Scholar from Republic, Missouri.
His paper, presented at the 2024 ASSR Annual Meeting, is entitled, "Caesarea, Paul’s Journeys, and Mediterranean Trade Patterns" and will be available for viewing soon when the 2024 Annual Proceedings are published on this site.
